About Me

Originally from western Massachusetts, Ryan Jalbert began playing guitar at age 12, inspired by MTV, rock radio, and his dad’s record collection. In his teen years he fell in love with the New England jam scene of the late ’90s and early ’00s, eventually earning a degree in Jazz Guitar before moving to Colorado. Shortly after arriving, he was recruited to join the acclaimed funk/jam group The Motet, where he has served as lead guitarist since 2005.

Alongside a busy recording and touring schedule, Ryan has always been a dedicated educator. He has been teaching guitar and bass for over 20 years, working with beginners, adult students, and advanced players looking to develop improvisation, tone, and musical feel. From 2008–2013 he served as adjunct guitar faculty at the University of Colorado Boulder, teaching private lessons, group classes, and coaching musicians of all levels.

Whether on stage or in the lesson room, Ryan is known for his musicality, patience, and clear, supportive teaching style. His lessons focus on playing real music, building technique and confidence, and helping students connect with the songs and styles they love. Lessons are available in-home in Denver or online.

During the pandemic, Ryan also began writing original music that grew into his instrumental project, Jalbatross—now the umbrella for his various creative and live-performance projects.

Today, Ryan continues to tour, record, and teach, balancing his life on stage with helping students discover the joy of playing guitar.
